Conductor Pablo González has been named the new Principal Conductor of the Spanish Radio and Television Symphony Orchestra (RTVE Symphony Orchestra) and Artistic Adviser to the Orchestra and Choir. Mr González, who already works as an artistic consultant in the programming of the orchestra, will replace Miguel Ángel Gómez-Martínez from the beginning of the 2019/20 season.

Mr González said: “I am absolutely delighted and very much looking forward to beginning my partnership with the outstanding musicians of the Spanish Radio and Television Symphony Orchestra (RTVE Symphony Orchestra) in Madrid. Having the opportunity to deepen our relationship in pursuit of artistic excellence makes me extremely happy and motivated. The RTVE Symphony Orchestra is not only one of the greatest orchestras in my home country, but a highly regarded orchestra on the international scene. I first conducted the orchestra over 10 years ago and I have enjoyed each and every one of the several performances that we have shared together since. Our past collaborations took us on very different repertoire adventures, and I am confident that this new partnership will offer us many more chances to discover some hidden musical treasures as well as cultivating the great repertoire, with special attention to the rich and diverse Spanish heritage, of which the RTVE Symphony Orchestra has always been its greatest ambassador. The communicative possibilities that the RTVE corporation offers to the orchestra are a very powerful framework for sharing the miracle of music with an incredibly vast and varied audience. I look forward to embarking on this journey in Madrid from next season!”

Manuel Ventero Valasco, Managing Director of the RTVE Symphony Orchestra, adds: “Orchestras need different conductors for each stage of their development and this is, no doubt, Pablo’s time. He is an excellent conductor, hard-working and meticulous. He has also a deep soul, which is very visible in his stage presence and this depth is in turn passed on the orchestra. He is moreover an exceptional person.”

Highly sought-after as a guest conductor across Europe, Pablo’s 2018/19 season is dominated by strong German presence including return visits to Konzerthausorchester Berlin and Gürzenich-Orchester Köln, as well as debuts with Frankfurt Radio Symphony and Dresden Philharmonic. In Germany, Pablo enjoys a special relationship with The Deutsche Radio Philharmonie Saarbrücken Kaiserslautern with whom he has many successful symphonic and recording projects to his acclaim. Further significant collaborations in 18/19 season include return visits to Helsinki Philharmonic, Orchestre Philharmonique de Liége and a debut with Lahti Symphony.

Born in Oviedo, Pablo studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. Pablo first captured international attention with his victories at the Donatella Flick and Cadaqués International Conducting competitions. He has previously held the positions of Principal Guest Conductor of the Orchestra of the City of Granada and an Assistant conductor of the London Symphony Orchestra.
