Pablo González will replace Eiji Oue as Principal Conductor of the OBC

MARTA CERVERA, El Periódico.

BARCELONA. The Barcelona Symphony Orchestra, National Orchestra of Catalonia (OBC) renews itself. Pablo González (Oviedo, 1975) was yesterday appointed Principal Conductor and Artistic Director of the orchestra, which he already conducted in october 2007 on a small tour. The decision was taken yesterday by the Consell Rector del Consorci de l’Auditori i l’Orquestra (Board of Directors of the Auditori & Orchestra Consortium). González hasn’t signed the contract yet but the talks with him are making good progress. The Japanese Eiji Oue will be replaced when his contract expires at the end of the season 2009-2010.

González, Principal Guest Conductor of the “Orquesta Ciudad de Granada”, has excelled since a very young age. At 25 he won the Donatella Flick Conducting Competition of the London Symphony Orchestra and in 2006 he was the winner of the renowned Cadaqués Orchestra International Conducting Competition. His career has always moved upwards, although he had to be away from the podium for almost five years after he started suffering from chronic fatigue syndrom at the beginning of 2000.

With him, the OBC intends to make the leap to international level. González has toured Asia with the Cadaqués Orchestra. His future engagements include concerts with the London Symphony Orchestra, the BBC Philarmonic Orchestra and the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra, amongst others.
