Biography

Pablo González has recently been announced as Music Director of the Orquestra Simfònica de Barcelona i Nacional de Catalunya from 2010/11.

Since October 2008 he is Principal Guest Conductor of the City of Granada Orchestra.

He has been Assistant Conductor of the London Symphony Orchestra, Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, Bournemouth Sinfonietta and the National Youth Orchestra of Spain. 

Born in 1975 in Oviedo (Spain), where he began his musical studies, he later studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama (London) where he began his conducting career. In 1998 Pablo began his two-year association with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and the Bournemouth Sinfonietta, conducting the orchestras in more than fifty performances through the South and West of England. Later on, working with the London Symphony Orchestra, he collaborated with Sir Colin Davis on the recording of Berlioz’s ‘The Trojans’ - winner of two ‘Grammy’ awards.

In June 1998 he won a prize in the “First National Competition for Young Conductors” in Granada (Spain). In October 2000 he was the winner of the Donatella Flick Conducting Competition (ex-aequo with Francois-Xavier Roth). In May 2006 he won the First Prize at the 8th Cadaqués Orchestra International Conducting Competition,

He has worked with soloists such as Maxim Vengerov, Truls Mork, Rudolf Buchbinder, Renaud Capuçon, Viviane Hagner, Eldar Nebolsin, Alban Gerhardt, Ainhoa Arteta, Jacques Zoon or Asier Polo. He has also conducted the Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne, Deutsche Radio Philharmonie, Danish Radio Sinfonietta, City of London Sinfonia, Sinfonieorchester Basel, Orchestre National de Belgique, Wiener Kammerorchester, Orchestre Philarmonique de Strasbourg, Royal Flemish Philharmonic, Hamburger Symphoniker, Orchestre Philarmonique de Liège, Winterthur Musikkolegium, Radio Svizzera Italiana de Lugano, Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional de Colombia, Orquesta Sinfónica del Estado de Sao Paulo and most of the orchestras in Spain.

In 2007 he took part in the tour 'Toyota Classics", which brought him to seven Asian countries together with the Orquesta de Cadaqués.

Future engagements include concerts with BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestre du Capitol de Toulouse, London Symphony and Warsaw Philarmonic. He will soon record a CD of Schumann's music with the Deutsche Radio Philarmonie Saarbrücken-Kaiserslauten and will conduct Don Giovanni with the Orquesta Sinfónica del Principado de Asturias in Oviedo (Spain).
